FAB Collage - Sails

Sails

I try not to go overboard on the embellishments. Scale is so important and these 9" x12" pieces just can't handle too much. The beads are tiny, but this one called to me to have a punctuation - so I used a Heishi bead that my Helene Davis gave me. I consider her a dear friend, mentor, and fabulous artist that I am privileged to know.

FAB Collage - Bell Jar

Bell Jar

Baboons symbolize wisdom to me, but why is this one "under glass"?

Faster than a Rabbit

The day is faster than a rabbit, it slips away from you in a flash.

FAB Collage - Tip

TIP
The egg to me represents "potential".

I like the way I finished the edges of the pyramid with "irregular" beads of different sizes - it reads beads, but in a different way.  Looking at this image on the screen - I love the way the binding looks - almost like a transparency of the marbled shape on the outside.

FAB Collage - Every Day of Beauty

Every Day of Beauty

Every day of beauty is paid for in life with a day of ugliness. This is one of my original FAB Collage.  I see I am still using rubber stamp images, I have come a long way baby.

FAB Collage - Sumo

Sumo

I carved a woodcut of this sumo wrestler and put a print of it together with some text that I had printed on fabric - "Do something everyday that scares you". Fear makes you feel alive!

FAB Collage - Duck Pond

Duck Pond

I can always tell what workshops I had taken just before a piece was created. I had taken an Elin Noble "innovative marbling" class before I made this FAB Collage.  I had ironed fabric that had been dipped in soda ash and it made the fabric very fragile and shredded.  Elin was upset, and I told her - it's only cloth!  OK, it wouldn't be good for making a quilt, but these FAB collages will never be washed, so what's the big deal.  Of course, as a professional teacher, she feels responsible for everyone to be 100% happy - and believe me, I was. If you ever get a chance to take any class from her - grab the opportunity, she's a real pro.
