Digital Collage - Womenhood

Womenhood

I can't tell you how many layers I had in this digital collage called "Womenhood".

Part of my artistic development has been affected by Photoshop.  A long time ago I realized that video games were a waste of time because I was just following a maze that someone else had created. So I took a beginner class in Photoshop and haven't looked back since. Although I do remember whining a lot in the beginning. But - the thing that it taught me was layering.  The more layers you can use, the more complex the image is. Of course you can go too far with that!

Feathers

Feathers

One of my art friends said "your work is getting simpler" and I know she meant that as a compliment.  I like this piece because it has the essence of a bird without a bird!  Just before I created it I had gone to a Polo Match.  I had arrived early and got a terrific spot to view the game.  Just before it started a single rider came out and chased all the sea gulls away from the field.  It was glorious - all of them taking flight with the horse loping around the field.  The image stuck with me and I picked up a couple feathers.

Quilt - A Winter's Tale

A Winter's Tale

Gosh - I wish I had the quote from Mark Helprin's "A Winter's Tale" that this piece was inspired by - "tendrils of smoke from chimneys" - or something like that.  This color scheme is the opposite from yesterday's post, but each one expresses something about me - my different sides so to speak.  My eyes must have been burnt out after making this piece - that is a searing green!  Oh my eyeballs!

The Spirit is Behind You

The Spirit is Behind You

This is a mixed media piece with collaged paper, fabric, and canvas that I made in a Fran Skiles class.  When I go to a workshop I not only bring the supplies the teacher suggests, but also other things that  I think might be interesting to experiment with.  One of the other students said to me, "you knew what you would work on so you knew what to bring". Hah - No - I don't have a clue, but it is always better to be prepared, so when an opportunity presents itself, I don't have to say "oh I wish I had brought .............".

Pink Frills

Pink Frills

That's probably the end of the Iris season - the rains and then the heat. But isn't that what gardening is all about - enjoy the moment, because nothing stands still and nothing lasts forever.

The Turquoise Bridge

I am always looking for interesting photos to take for my FAB Collages.  There is a magical garden near Syracuse that I visit yearly and it transports me back to my visit to Monet's garden in Giverny. The turquoise bridge, water lilies, and koi just slip me into a reverie.

Spinning - Quilt

Spinning

I image myself to be a little girl and to gaze down at a pool of water in the summer.  At first - all I see is water, then I see the reflection of the sky and the trees in the water.  Then I penetrate the surface and find a whole world of tadpoles and creatures living in the pond, then I realize that this universe is so big - below and above me that I can do anything and it won't even be noticed. So - I just continue to stare into the past and the present and what the future will bring.
