This is the little piece that started it all. A friend of mine had two significant people in his life die in a week. I wanted to do something for him, so I fused snippets to some cloth and sent it to him as a sympathy "card". The Chinese proverb was something like "There will always be birds in your hair, but you don't have to let them nest in it." It was a little "giftee" for him, but it turned out to be a big inspiration for me!
Memories often inspire my work. As a child I had the mumps and couldn't go to the circus with the rest of the family. My Dad brought home a stuffed monkey for me to play with. I still have that monkey in the Living Room, just to remind me that he loved me.
A friend of mine bought this because her ancestors were sword makers in Japan in ancient history. She now lives in California and I bet it is hanging in one of her rooms still. I sure hope so!
